Blue Shield CA to offer 4 new plans July 1, 2012

Blue Shield of California recently announced four new plans to be available for purchase on July 1, 2012. The plan names are Shield Wise, Shield Saver, Shield Secure, Shield Secure Plus. Here is a quick overview of these insurance plans:

Shield Wise - Shield Wise plans are lower cost plans that offer the first 2 office visits at a low copay.  This plan covers both generic and brand name drugs. The brand name drug has a high deductible to keep the monthly premium lower.  These plans are great for students or active individuals on a budget.

Shield Saver
- Shield Saver are HSA compatible plans that have no coinsurance. This means that when you meet your deductible you will have no additional cost for all covered services for the remainder of the year when using Preferred Providers. These low out-of-pocket costs make Shield Saver plans are prefect for the self-employed or anyone who wants to reduce the total cost they would pay should they be in an accident.

Shield Secure - Shield Secure plans are the plans for families on a budget with three deductible options: $2,000, $4,000 and $6,000 dollars. Families will pay less on these plans because the will have higher coinsurance and higher out-of-pocket maximums than on the Shield Secure Plus plans (listed below). While these plans cover generic prescription drugs, there is a higher drug deductible for brand-name drugs.

Shield Secure Plus - Shield Secure Plus plans are Blue Shield of California’s most comprehensive plans. They provide physician office visits for a low copay ($30), a low brand-name prescription drug deductible, and a choice of same deductible options as the Shield Secure plans. These plans are for individuals and families that want the most comprehensive plans at the best price.

To apply for these plans, you will need an effective date of 7/1/2012 or later. Click on the link for each plan above to learn more and get a quote.
