ObamaCare: Sole-Proprietorships Must Purchase Through Individual Marketplace

Sole-proprietorship businesses are not considered a “small business” under the Affordable Care Act. Therefore sole-proprietorship businesses much purchase through the individual market. The plans available are the new ObamaCare metal plans known as the Bronze plan, Silver plan, Gold plan, and Platinum plan.

Sole-proprietorship include husband and wife teams. In order to purchase insurance through SHOP (Small Business Health Options Program) there must be one common law employee. SHOP offers tax credits for tax credits for small employers. If you currently are a sole-proprietorship you more than likely will not be able to keep your current small group insurance.

For help finding a plan available now or for information about the new “metal” plans call 800-930-7956 or contact Medicoverage for assistance.
