The new Affordable Care Act plans are known as the Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum plans. These new plans offer two types of subsidies to help keep costs down for those who qualify:

Off-Exchange Plans for Minnesota

By now, most people have heard of the Exchange plans (those are the metal plans listed above), but most people don’t realize that they have the option to purchase a plan off the Exchange. What is that, you may be asking. Well, let me explain, if you think or know you qualify for subsidies go with an Exchange plan, but if you are positive that you make too much money to qualify (more than $45,960 for an individual) you can save a lot of time and hassle by purchasing identical plans off the Exchange or you might find plans with more benefits, if your provider so chooses.

Options for Purchasing On or Off Exchange Plans

There are a few options: through the navigators at the state Exchanges or purchase through an agent. Why would you choose to do one or the other? Well, many people don’t realize that agents are available to them at no extra cost, and that’s one of the reasons the feds decided to include navigators in the Affordable Care Act. But here’s the real difference: Navigators are not allowed to give you their opinion on a plan or guide you one way or another, whereas agents are able to suggest and breakdown the plans for you.
