ObamaCare: Glitch in System May Help Smokers

ObamaCare makes another last minute delay by contacting insurance providers to let them know a computer glitch which will limit penalties. The repair of this glitch will take one year to fix.

The real reason for the glitch is the Affordable Care Act states that “insurers cannot charge older customers more than three times what they charge the youngest adults in the pool. The government’s computer system has been unable to accommodate the two. So younger smokers and older smokers must be charged the same penalty, or the system will kick it out,” according to CBS News.

More than likely the glitch will fall in favor of older smokers. However, insurers may choose to charge younger smokers higher penalties to even this out. We’ll have to wait and see what the companies decide to do with the new ObamaCare “metal” plans known as the Bronze Plan, Silver Plan, Gold Plan, and Platinum Plan.

For further questions about how smoking will play a role in the new health plans or about the new “metal” plans call 800-930-7956 or contact Medicoverage.
